Phillip Payne presented "`America First' In the World: The National Story at 250 in the Age of Digital Globalization," at the University of Warsaw. The presentation was part of the the 21st Century Andrzej Bartnicki Forum for the Advanced Studies of the United States and the conference covered the topic of "America and the World: Reciprocal History of Influence and Exchange." The paper explored the idea of American First and isolationism as a form of national narrative during a period of political polarization when many lament the loss of a unifying national narrative. The paper represents the start of a new research project with the working title "America First: Isolationism in the American Political Tradition," which is under advanced contract with Louisiana State University Press.
